Friends, This page I am creating to request all new aspiring owners not to be kennel blind.
Don’t just go with the titles of sire and dam
Don’t just believe the trader or breeders saying to you that the pup is from champion blood lines etc
Please give first priority to the HD ED (hip and elbow) certification of both sire and dam.
Second the pedigree and temperament of sire and dam, and the puppies that have been produced in previous litters from the same combination of parents.
If possible talk to the owners of the owners of puppies from previous litters.
Unless owners take the initiative to only buy from a breeder who breeds only a sire and dam who have acceptable OFA ratings, there will be more and more pups all around, which won’t be good representatives of the breed.
IF YOU LOVE THE BREED, Even you don’t own one no worries, it’s better than having a pup from some unethical breeder who breeds without proper health examinations of the sire and dam just to earn money.
More good points here…. puppies from healthy parents (both physically and mentally) who have passed all recommended health tests and have great pedigrees which contain both conformation champions and working titles (such as Shutzhund) are much more likely to grow up to be excellent examples of the Rottweiler breed.
To learn more about hip dysplasia and why it’s important to only buy from breeders whose dogs have OFA (or equivalent) certification, see my Hip Dysplasia In Dogs page. Also you’ll find lots of tips and advice on choosing a breeder on my Choosing A Rottweiler Breeder page. Taking the time and effort to research the breed and to find a responsible and ethical breeder is a vitally important part of your puppy search.
