Jax
I posted a question a few weeks ago about Jax and pooping blood. It had gone away. He was doing fine. With the pills the vet gave me. The vet also put him on Purina EV gastrointestinal. I had him on it a few days but it was like $30 for 6 lbs. I changed his food. I didn’t want to keep doing the vet food – to Science Diet Sensitive tummy on Friday.
Yesterday when I got home, blood all over my bedroom. Called emergency vet and they said as long as he’s not vomiting, not to worry. Went back to my vet today. Got more food (trashing the Science Diet and don’t care that it was $70 for a large bag) and also more of the pills. At lunch, he had no blood in his stool and it had hardened. The vet saw the pic of the bloody poo and said it’s normal because of his irritated colon. I am not so sure. I am planning to take him to another vet tomorrow and got his records from mine, but wanted to see if anyone has seen anything like this before. I will post a photo. Watch out. It’s not pretty at all.
The reason I am asking is because I have already spent $500 at the vet in the last two weeks so I want to make sure I am not overreacting before I rush him to a new place. ]
I appreciate your feedback and so does Jax.
As far as how he’s doing. He’s pretty normal besides the tummy. He has energy. He’s eating. Drinking more water than usual. He sleeps during the day, but that’s what he has always done unless he’s at his dog day camp. He slept with me last night in bed just like usual and was begging for treats, as usual. A tad more lethargic than usual…but not drastically.
Thank you!
Hi Jax’s mom
I’m not sure what the diagnosis was for Jax, but as the medication seemed to work then hopefully it was the right one.
I’d stick to the food that didn’t upset him, and the medication and give it some time. Irritation or inflammation can take some time to settle down, and some parasitic conditions can require more than one round of treatment.
That is a fair amount of blood in his stools, but the good news is that apart from being a bit tired he seems to be okay in general.
However, if I were you I would probably want to seek a second opinion from another vet just to be certain that the right approach is being taken. Your own vet should understand that and not be upset by it. It’s always better to be proactive and err on the side of caution, so given that Jax is still experiencing symptoms that would be my move.
I hope that you get to the bottom of this soon and that Jax is 100% healthy. Best of luck.
