I thought she was just shedding her second coat so I groomed her 3 times a day for 4 days. It seemed to stop but then approx 2 days later she is shedding again like crazy.
I noticed white flakes on her fur and when I pat her I can literally pick her fur up in my hands it’s not leaving bald spots but I am concerned. Is this something I should be really worried about or is there a shampoo that will help.
I don’t have a photo of it but it sort of resembles a bad case of dandruff in humans.
Thanks
Hi Marlene
Rottweilers do shed quite a bit, but this sounds excessive to me. The dry skin and ‘dandruff’ indicate there’s more going on here than just blowing coat.
I’d strongly recommend that you get her to your veterinarian for an exam so that you can find out what’s causing all this hair loss.
Rottweilers tend to suffer from allergies, and can have sensitive skin which can lead to all sorts of problems including rashes, infections and such.
Only a vet can make an accurate diagnosis of the problem and recommend treatment. At this point I doubt an over-the-counter shampoo will help, it’s more likely to make things worse.
She could have skin mites, or a yeast infection or any number of things, so it’s impossible for me to recommend a treatment – but your vet can.
I wish you lots of luck and hope that your Rottie is soon doing much better.
Marlene
