Take leaks in the house

by rosario
(florida)

I live in a townhouse. i want to know how to teach my rotty to take his leaks outside....

Hi Rosario
A pup isn't born knowing where humans expect him to pee or poop, he's a dog and as far as he's concerned anywhere is okay ... as long as it's not where he sleeps.

You will need to read my Housebreaking A Puppy and Taking Care Of A Puppy pages so that you can learn how to teach your pup the right habits.

Raising a puppy is like raising a child and it takes a lot of time, effort and patience. Rottweilers are very intelligent and willing to learn, but you need to understand how to teach them too.

I wish you the best of luck with your pup.

Training with bells.
by: Anonymous

When our Puppy came home we had a little bit of trouble training him to go outside. He would go to the back door but pee or poop before we got there. We heard from a friend about training with bells. We placed 3 bells on some elastic that you get from a fabric store. Every time we took him out we would use his nose or paw to ring the bells. He learned to use them within a couple of days. He's now 5 months old and rings them every time to go out and doesn't play with them like you think he would. It's also great because he doesn't need to bark.

taking a leak response

it is good to take a puppy out every 30 imns when real young and then every hour on the hour until they understand that is where the are suppsed to go. Also when you catch them in the act of peeing you should scold them ( just a little NO, NO,)and then lead them out to the right place. they will get the hang of it soon
