Rottweiler pup shaking his head

by Arun

Hi,

I have a one year old Rottweiler. Today morning he woke up and started shaking his head as if something is in his ears. Then he stopped and again sometimes he is shaking his head. We took him to a vet and he said it could be some fungus and gave some drops.

What all could be the reasons for this? He is eating and playing and doing everything normally.

Hi Arun
There are a few different possibilities for this type of behavior.

Head shaking can be due to ear mites, an infection (bacterial or fungal), or canine allergies

If the head shaking doesn't improve with the medication he's been given, then I'd take him back to your vet for another look. Meantime, consider allergies as a real possibility (Rottweilers are a breed that seem to have more than their fair share of allergy related problems).

A reaction can be caused by a food ingredient/s, dust, pollen or other seasonal triggers, chemicals (such as parasite preventatives, artificial ingredients in shampoos, laundry detergent, carpet cleaners, garden products etc.) It's a good idea to think about everything that your pup has come into contact with recently and see if you can figure out what's at the root of the problem.

Hopefully however the drops will take care of it, or it will improve naturally. If not, see the vet again. Good luck.
