rottweiler puppy love of rottweilers

Quality dog food in India.

by Himanshu Mehta
(Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.)

Hi,

Am trying to source quality dog food for our rottweiler puppy here in India. We prefer brands recommended by 'the whole dog journal' or the brand 'the honest kitchen'. Any rottweiler owners or dog food retailers/distributors here who can guide me? I want to avoid feeding mass brands like Royal Canin or Eukanuba.

Regards,

Himanshu

Hi Himanshu
I have heard that it can be difficult to find premium dog foods in some countries.

Although I don't have any personal experience of this I suggest you take a look at this webpage Dog Feed Programs - Overseas.

It has information for dog owners overseas, and specific help for those in India. It's on the 'Great Dane Ladys' website and I totally trust her information and expertise, and can highly recommend her site to the owners of any large breed dogs.

Also, if any other Rottie owners who are visiting my site can give Himanshu additional information or advice, please feel free to join in by posting comments here.

Hope this helps, best of luck with your pup.

Taste of the Wild in Bangalore
by: Anonymous

I started feeding Taste of the Wild (http://tasteofthewildpetfood. com) to my dogs. I used to feed Hills. I can see a tremendous difference. I buy from 'Man's Best Friend' in bangalore. Phone: 8050005577. I think they have a web site also. try http://www.mansbestfriend.co.in . The big bag 30lbs costs me 5300 (this is still cheaper than Hills). He offers discounts if you buy in bulk. Taste os the wild is approved by whole dog journal. I downloaded the whole dog 2011 list from the following link
http://www.farmdogsusa.com/uploads/2/8/2/7/2827144/wdj_2011_best_dry_foods.pdf . Taste of wild is listed under Diamond pet products. As of now i think it is the only wdj approved food in india. lets hope they keep up supplies.

Quality dog food.
by: Himanshu Mehta

There is no quality dog food available in India. People, who have tried importing quality dog food, have run into all sorts of trouble with animal husbandry department and customs. One of the guys; who tried importing Solid Gold, was denied permission cause the food had bison as an ingredient. He was told that bison was a protected animal in India. The truth is there are no bisons in India. Another guy has waiting for permission for god knows how long. Only couple of companies have been able to import and they import garbage and sell it here at high prices. There seems to be a nexus between animal husbandry, customs, importers/distributors, big manufacturers, vets etc. Strong words but true.

Quality dog food in India.
by: Himanshu Mehta

Hi Girish,

Are you sure Nutro is such a good choice? I would rather not experiment. To me it is just another brand. I have already come across Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Natural Trainer, Pro-Pac, Pro-Pett, Bento Kronen e.t.c., here in Delhi. I would rather go by the brands recommended by 'The Whole Dog Journal'. Our girl thrives on the WDG brands. Friends, including embassy contacts, bring them in when they go abroad. Just bought a 13.6 kg bag of Orijen Large Breed Adult for 3500 INR approximately.

Try one of the WDG brands. I have written to most of them and all are eager to enter the Indian market.

Regards,

Himanshu.

Quality dog food in India
by: Girish

currently we as a group of rotty lovers in India are discussing and trying to find solution for this.

what we are trying to locate is a holistic kibble

which dont have Wheat, Maize, corn or soya
with meat ingrediants, specifically says what the major ingrediants and not just say poultry, by product etc. instead clearly states Chicken, Turkey, lamb etc

currently looking forward to some news on a NutraGoldĀ® Holistic Formulas dealership by some one in northern india.

once the details are confirmed I will update you here.

rather than paying high price for Grain (wheat, white rice, maize, corn and soya) filled kibbles available in india, rather prefer going ahead with home made foods with sufficient multi vitamin supplments to balance.

till that time those who cant prepare home food had to depend on grain filled kibbles like ekanuba, royal canine or pedigree with additional multivitamin supplments, green vegetables, carrots.

hope to return back on this page with some happy news for all dog lovers.
