my rotweiler face is swollen and eye is shut

i noticed my dogs face last week looked a little puffy i felt. it felt like fluid no bumps. about three days ago i came home his face looked like a balloon his eye is shut and it feels like a soft ball on his face.

now the weird thing is when he was a younger, about two, he got this weird bump and his eye was inflamed green stuff in all the doctor gave him cortizone and it went away. it came back three times. about two years later another bumped formed but this was on the outside and became raw and bled vet gave him antibiotics went away and now again same side of his face this bump. different but same side of his face.

he was tested for cancer the first two time came back negative. but never knew the cause of anything or what it really was. i am taking him to the vet tomorrow but just curious if you ever heard of this?

Actually no, I haven't ever heard or experienced this sort of thing. When I saw the title of your question I immediately thought 'allergies', but then once I read the history I realized it was probably something different.

It does sound as those these recurrences are related to one condition, but I'm not a veterinarian and I've no idea what it could be. The green pus first time around indicates infection, but the rawness, bleeding and fluid of these other times seems different.

I'm glad the cancer tests were negative, but there's definitely something odd going on. If anyone else reading this has experienced something similar or has any ideas, please feel free to use the 'comments' section to let us know.

I'm glad he's going to the veterinarian today and will be interested to find out what he/she says is causing the problem. It would be a good idea to ask questions though and try to find out what diagnosis is being given, you can always ask to be referred to a specialist of some sort, or get a second opinion from another vet, if you don't feel you are getting the answers you need.
