Grey hair on head

by Brian
(Crown point in)

I have a 12 yr old rott in great shape he started getting grey hair on top of head and now it seems to be spreading. Everything with him seems right but his hair.

Took him to vet and they said they can do tests but not sure what it was. He gets around good, eats good, and his stool seems good too.

Hi Brian
Are you sure it's not just that his coat is turning grey because he's getting older? On average a Rottweiler lives somewhere between 9 and 12 years, so your guy is doing great.

If he seems healthy otherwise, I really wouldn't worry too much about this. I have a female Rottie who is almost 13 years old and she has a lot of grey hair around her muzzle, and a little on her head. I just take it as a sign of her advancing years.

Rottweilers can have either a grey, or rust, colored undercoat, and as they get older their coat can become thinner, and I'm wondering if perhaps that has anything to do with the grey you're seeing?

If you're concerned, or feel that it's more than this and something isn't quite right, then perhaps you want to have your vet run a couple of tests. You know your dog best, so trust your instincts too.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, best of luck to you. I hope your Rottie keeps going strong for a long time to come.
