i have a 7 month old male rottie named max, and i just noticed he only has one testicle. should i be concerned, or will the other one drop later?

Hi Priscilla
Normally a pups testicles will both have dropped by the time he's a couple of months old, but sometimes it can take longer. However, 7 months is outside of the normal range.

I'd recommend having your vet take a look at him to confirm the problem. If this is the case, your vet may recommend surgery to remove the undescended testicle as the risk of testicular cancer is higher in undescended testicles and I'd discuss this with him. Apart from that, this problem shouldn't cause any other health issues and doesn't affect the dog or prevent him from maturing or developing properly etc.

This condition is called 'Cryptorchidism' and is often genetic. It's something that you don't want to 'pass on', so I would recommend not breeding this male (that's if you had any plans to do so in the first place).

Hope this helps. Best of luck with your pup.
